If you’re in Dalmatia, we hope you’re warm and indoors
If you found yourself anywhere along the Croatian coast on March 13, 2016, then you would have felt the full force of the Croatian northern wind Bura. It’s cold, strong and goes straight to your bones, but it very common in March. In fact, according to old sayings, there are supposed to be three Marćane bure (March buras), one on the 7th, one on the 17th and one more on the 27th, and if all three of them blow out their rage, then we will have a good and warm summer.
Well, we’re just in the middle of the first one, it might have been a few days late but it brought its full force. In some parts of the coast, especially around Krk bridge, it reached the speed of up to 167 km /h yesterday which is characterised hurricane strength. And if you think it’s easy to walk around in those conditions, just check out the videos below.
And now we go to Pag bridge…maybe it would have been a bit wiser to stay in the car than to go bura chasing but then we wouldn’t have these shots.
Strong bura almost always causes problems with the traffic, so if you are headed towards Zagreb today, take note that the A1 motorway is closed between Sveti Rok and Posedarje which will prolong your journey. The wind should slowly ease up by the end of the day, so stay warm and make sure you have something to grab a hold of in case wind surge gets you.
