Villa Vulin in Pula is currently hosting two motion pictures featuring Tom Sizemore, Costas Mandylor and Eric Roberts

Tom Sizemore, an American actor with quite an impressive resume to his name, is currently filming in Istria. Having played more than 200 roles in the last 30 years, he apparently isn’t planning to slow down anytime soon, as he’s currently working on two projects in Pula simultaneously.

Sizemore is best known for his roles in Natural Born Killers, Heat, Wyatt Earp and Saving Private Ryan. The main reason for his visit to Pula is C.L.E.A.N., a mystery thriller that’s currently getting filmed in Villa Vulin, a charming luxury boutique hotel which won multiple prestigious awards earlier this year.

The project is headed by the German studio Dream Team Pictures, with producer Vjekoslav Katušin at the helm, and in collaboration with the Istria Film Centre from Pula. The next couple of days will have Sizemore playing the agent of an actor seeking treatment in a rehab facility, with actor Costas Mandylor playing the clinic director Dr. Sutter.

It’s been busy in Villa Vulin these days, with the hotel hosting the other motion picture as well: Someone Dies Tonight, a thriller filmed in Pula and the region of Baranja. It makes sense, as the plot is actually set in Croatia; the film has Eric Roberts and Sizemore in leading roles, is also produced by Katušin, and both mentioned projects are directed by Aurelio Agliata.

Reporters of Glas Istre talked to Sizemore to inquire how much he knows about Croatia. “I know about it having been a part a Yugoslavia, I know about Tito and the brutal civil war, but I don’t know much else apart from how unfortunate that period must have been for all of you. I’m a big fan of Dražen Petrović, Vlado Divac, Toni Kukoč and Dino Rađa, as you probably are as well. I hope I’ll get to work on many more films here”, Sizemore said.

Director Agliata called Sizemore a team player, an extremely cordial person and an outstanding professional a lot of people could learn from. He also touched on the subject of filming in Croatia: “It’s not easy to make such films in Europe. We all live in one Europe, but nobody’s collaborating. For example, if we are provided with funds by a certain government, all the money has to be spent in that country. Katušin wanted to do things his own way, as Americans do, and everybody thought it impossible, but he succeeded and brought Roberts, Sizemore and Mandylor to Croatia. Not all producers in Europe are capable of achieving such a thing, especially not the young ones”, said Agliata.
