Hundreds of children without adequate parental care, from low income families and children with special needs have been given a chance to spend their vacation at the Adriatic Sea, many of them for the first time ever. A donation from Croatia’s leading tourism company, Poreč – Istria headquartered Valamar Riviera, has made this possible in the summer of 2016 for the third consecutive year.
The company has donated 1,000 free overnight stays with half or full board at one of their 30 hotels and resorts or one of their 13 camps along the Istrian and Dalmatian coast as part of their corporate social responsibility program “A Thousand Days at the Adriatic Sea”. This year’s beneficiaries include children from the SOS Village Croatia, the Association for Autistic Children from Nedelišće, various child foster care organisations, children from flood-hit Gunja, associations of parents of children with disabilities, Roma youth organisations and many more.
The Valamar group is the leading tourism group in Croatia, encompassing 10 percent of the country’s categorised accommodation capacity. Its hotels, apartment villages and campsites are situated on the Adriatic coast and can simultaneously accommodate more than 48,000 guests. Its assets are mostly owned by Valamar Riviera d.d. from Poreč, Croatia’s biggest tourism company when it comes to income and facilities. Another member of the group is Puntižela d.o.o. The total value of the tourism assets is approximately HRK 3 billion.
Valamar Riviera d.d. has more than 22,000 shareholders, and the single largest shareholder of the company is the Austrian investment firm EPIC. Tourist capacities of the group are operated by Valamar Hotels & Resorts Ltd., a leading Croatian company in tourism management.
