After 99 years, the Tesla Tower will stand again.

At this year’s INmusic festival in Zagreb, visitors will be able to witness something which is not usually seen at music festivals – a replica of the Tesla Tower which will include a special audio-visual stage for about 200 people, it was announced on Thursday by festival organizers, reports Poslovni.hr on May 19, 2016.

The replica will be 27 metres high, almost as high as a six storey building, and will weigh as much as 249 tons including reinforced concrete base. It will be built with 3,500 steel elements and 4,000 screws. The stage in the tower will be 12 metres in diameter, and will include video montages accompanied by music dedicated to Tesla and David Bowie.

This year marks 99 years since the destruction of the Tesla Tower. David Bowie was fascinated by Tesla and since he recently died the INmusic festival organizers have decided to pay tribute to these two great men, said festival director Zoran Marić.

The construction of the tower, which will be half the size of the original, will cost around 800,000 kuna, which is a major expense for the organizers. Marić said that he and all the participants in the project hoped that the replica of the Tesla Tower would become a symbol of the festival and perhaps even of Zagreb, and that in the coming years it would stay at the festival venue at Jarun.

The Tesla Tower (Wardenclyffe Tower) was located on Long Island in New York. Its construction began in 1901 and it was demolished in 1917. The 60 metre high tower was supposed to improve telephone and all other types of wireless communications, and serve to explore the concept of wireless transmission of electricity.

The eleventh edition of INmusic Festival will be held at Jarun Lake from 20 to 22 June, and will feature a number of foreign and local musicians, such as Florence + The Machine, PJ Harvey, Gutterdammerung featuring Henry Rollins, Wilco, and many others.
