Istria Book Fair to Focus on Issues of Freedom

ZAGREB, October 14, 2018 – Freedom is the theme of the 24th Istria Book Fair, to be held in Pula from November 29 to December 9. The event will be opened by Wole Soyinka, the first African winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature and fighter for a free society, organisers have announced.

The fair will bring together hundreds of participants, including authors, promoters, over 200 publishers, and libraries, as well as thousands of visitors. It will include book launches, round tables, and award ceremonies.

Aside from Nigerian author Soyinka, the fair will be attended by Icelandic poet and novelist Eirikur Orna Nordahl, Norwegian philosopher Lars Svendsen, Israeli philosopher Ishay Landa, Italian cartoonist Vittorio Giardino, and Macedonian author Rumena Bužarovska.

Croatian authors will include Žarko Paić, Rajko Grlić, Ivana Dragičević, Danijel Žeželj, Sinan Gudžević, Borivoj Radaković, Julijana Adamović and Darko Berljak.

Javier Cercas, one of Europe’s greatest contemporary authors, will close the fair.
