Congratulations, Zadar and Šibenik!
St. Nicholas Fortress in Šibenik and the defensive walls of Zadar have officially been added to UNESCO World Heritage List, 24 sata reported on July 9.
What is more, both sites were added to the list unanimously, Šibenik-Knin County Prefect Goran Pauk said for Šibenski portal. He is currently in Krakow, Poland, where the 41st session of the Wolrd Heritage Committee is taking place July 2 – 12.
We reported on both sites when they were nominated for the list back in May.
Together with the eight other sites that in Croatia have been on UNESCO World Heritage list – Plitvice Lakes National Park, historical complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian, old city of Dubrovnik, Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, historic city of Trogir, St. James Cathedral in Šibenik, Stari Grad Plain, and stećci, medieval tombstones – this makes a total of ten UNESCO World Heritage sites in Croatia.
