Korčula Cafe Closes Because: “We Are Drunk”

Total Croatia News

You have to love the honesty! On Friday 22nd September 2017, a cafe on Korčula closed for possibly the best reason ever.

I know a lot of restaurant owners, those I have seen recently have that jaded look of someone who has served, smiled and answered a million questions from thousands of tourists for the last five months straight. Almost everyone who lives on the Croatian coast works in tourism; so, while summer still means pina coladas, sunshine and Despacito, rather than being the ones to enjoy those things, they are the ones serving, sweating and going grey before their time hearing the same songs played 100 times a day.

How many times do you think we can get away with saying – “this has been Croatia’s busiest summer yet?” Well, just for good measure, I’ll say it again. This has been Croatia’s busiest summer yet; however, the finish line is in sight and locals are getting ready to close up shop and take some much-needed R&R over winter.

It seems some have decided to take that break a little earlier…

This image was posted on the Facebook Page ‘Just another Average Dalmatian’ from a café in Korcula who we can only guess, figured “enough is enough, it is the end of September and I am going to take a weekend!” Either that or their last patron pushed them over the edge…

While some may find this unprofessional, I am sure it was done for a laugh and you’ll have to excuse us for laughing along – because if anyone deserves a weekend AND to be drunk, it is hospitality staff! Let’s face it, we have all wanted to be this brutally honest before but not all of us have the luxury of owning our own business!

To the owner: wherever you are, I hope you are lying on a beach somewhere, being served cocktails or ice-cold beer and for your sanity’s sake, I hope you do not have to hear Despacito!
