More than 2 weeks of high-quality international music comes to an end in magnificent settings on Septmeber 17, 2018, as the 7th Korkyra Baroque Festival moves to Fortress Veliki Kastio in Ston.
A wonderful late-summer cultural treat comes to an end this evening with the final performance of this year’s Korkyra Baroque Festival.
The festival, now in its seventh year, is gradually spreading its wings and cultural importance from its home in Korcula Town, and this year’s festival has seen performanes in other parts of the island of Korcula – Pupnat, Vela Luka and the islet of Vrnik, as well as Orebic on the Peljesac Peninsula and the setting for tonight’s grande finale, Fortress Veliki Kastio in Ston.
Ston, one of Croatia’s most interesting towns, famous for its oysters and its salt pans (the latter used to provide a third of the income for the independent Dubrovnik Republic and were the reason why its majestic walls were constructed – said to the be the longest fortified wall in the world outside China) is a fitting end to a fortnight of excellent entertainment, and tonight’s programme is as follows (tickets may be bought at the venue):
