An innovative approach to serving coffee in the city centre.
Croatian Design Superstore has created, in cooperation with the Franck company, a functional, mobile station for making and serving coffee. The impressive modular Franck Pop-Up, designed by Draga Komparak, is being presented to the residents and visitors of the Croatia’s capital as part of the Design District Zagreb event, from 16 to 19 June, reports wish.hr on June17, 2016.
“The choice of materials has played a key role in communicating the identity of the Franck coffee making factory, from their very texture and colour to the elements which remind us of the smell of a freshly roasted coffee. For the same reason, the external volume of the modular system is visually dominated by impressive “corten” – material which creates a unique brass colour when in contact with the air, thus making a contrast with the inside of the module for which the functional, easily washed black compact panel has been used. The cinnabar, clay-brick, walnut and other shades are all part of the story that Franck has been telling us for generations using the contents of a cup of coffee or tea”, said Draga Komparak explaining her concept.
Franck’s production complex in Zagreb’s Vodovodna Street was opened in 1892. It was one of the first major food industry facilities in the country. Franck factory was built based on the architect Kune Waidmann’s design. Today, it is a perfect example of Zagreb’s industrial architecture and design. Therefore, the pop-up coffee shop embodies a long history and tradition of the factory and its contribution to the coffee and tea culture.
“This conceptual solution of the mobile station is designed to reflect the centuries-old tradition, but also Franck’s contemporary spirit and innovative focus. Cooperation with the Design District Zagreb is a part of our long-term strategy, which includes providing support to the Croatian design and craft production, and to valuable projects that contribute to the further development of the quality tourist and hospitality offer in Zagreb, where Franck made a big step forward with the project of the revitalization of the City Café Johann Franck”, said Kristijan Gregorić, director of Franck’s marketing and development.
