Radiochirurgia is reportedly the most modern oncology clinic in Southeast Europe.

Radiochirurgia Zagreb, reportedly the most modern clinic for diagnosis and treatment of cancer with radiotherapy, radiosurgery and chemotherapy in Southeast Europe, was officially opened in Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb, reports Poslovni.hr on February 3, 2017.

Radiochirurgia is the first clinic in Croatia and the region which offers screening examinations for early detection of lung cancer with a modern CT device with minimal radiation dosage. Clinic also offers other examinations for early detection of cancer, such as magnetic resonance imaging and virtual colonoscopy.

The new clinic was officially opened by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who stressed the importance of prevention and reducing the risk by developing healthy lifestyle. She called on all relevant government institutions to urgently adopt the National Plan for Fight against Cancer.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Milan Kujundžić, Health Minister and an envoy of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Kujundžić welcomed the fact that the clinic was opened with private funds which have been used to solve problems of concern for the entire community and stressed the importance of increasing competition in healthcare system, which can only result in improved quality of services provided.

“After four years of working on this project, I feel satisfaction and pride since citizens of Croatia and other countries can now use the most advanced devices and methods for early detection and treatment of cancer”, said director of “Radiochirurgia Zagreb” Dragan Schwarz, adding that the clinic, in addition to having the most advanced technology, also brings together a highly professional medical team. “Each of us is connected to this illness one way or another”, said Schwarz, remembering colleagues and business partners with whom he worked on the project and who died from cancer in the meantime.

The clinic will offer its services as part of public and private health insurance plans in the entire Southeast Europe. “We have decided to invest in this clinic due to devastating statistics, because in Croatia about 25,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, and technology at Radiochirurgia allows for early detection of cancer and significantly increases chances of a successful outcome”, said Schwarz.

Radiosurgery uses a high precision beam of arrays which destroy cancer, with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. The treatment does not last long, and patients can immediately go home after the procedure. The total investment exceeds 10 million euros and was financed from private sources, with the help of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a HAMAG Bicro guarantee.
