New additions await both Zagreb and Šibenik!
As Poslovni Dnevnik/Marija Crnjak writes on the 5th of March, 2018, after having opened a congress hall in Opatija and a convention centre in Šibenik last year, the Ugo Group, the owners of Šibenik’s Solaris and Opatija’s Milenij hotels, are continuing on with their strong investment cycle with which they’re entering the Zagreb hotel market for the first time ever, with the opening of the prestigious Hotel Century.
In addition, with the reconstruction and upgrading of their existing impressive portfolio, the group has some very ambitious plans for the increasingly popular Dalmatian town of Šibenik, a town in which they have announced the construction of the new hotel Campo and the Lighthouse water park, however, the location of the new facilities, as well as details of these expensive projects, haven’t yet been unveiled.
New attraction as of summer
The company confirmed to Poslovni Dnevnik that in the autumn of this year, they are set to open their first city hotel in a prestigious location in the center of the Croatian capital of Zagreb.
The new central Zagreb hotel will have 112 rooms and the value of this investment amounts to 14.5 million euro. The hotel will be built within a former building of Zagrebačka banka, which, as Poslovni Dnevnik unofficially states, was purchased by Milenij hotels for approximately 35 million kuna from the bank. The new hotel will bear the ”Heritage” sign.
As far as the other planned investments are concerned, the complete renovation of Hotel Jakov in Šibenik’s Solaris has been set out, the completion of which is expected by the summer season.
“Hotel Jakov will, alongside its already existing 238 facilities, get another 90 accommodation facilities. Šibenik’s visitors will be met with the new ”Mediterranean Square” attraction this summer, a Mediterranean square with numerous hospitality and shopping features that will become the entertainment centre of the entire resort”, explained the company, who has hotel business which gains about 550 million kuna in revenue annually, and employs about 1,600 people during the tourist season.
Great projects by the year 2020!
For the time being, the aforementioned company doesn’t want to disclose any of the details of a number of other investments with which they’re directly involved, which they have announced on their websites. The most attractive from the list of new projects is the construction of the new Hotel Campo in Šibenik, which will boast an impressive 250 rooms, the project is described by the company as a greenfield investment which is currently still in its very infancy. There are also plans to construct a new, luxurious pavilion for Hotel Ivan in Solaris, which will have about 150 accommodation units and will be intended for Šibenik’s increasing number of guests. The plan is to complete this investment by the spring of 2020.
By 2022, however, it would be necessary to complete the total reconstruction of Šibenik’s Hotel Niko, currently the only Šibenik hotel belonging to the Ugo Group that still has three stars, and after its reconstruction, it will boast about 450 rooms.
