As a part of the celebrations of the International Worker’s Day on May 1st, 2018, Tourist Board of the town of Slunj wants to invite you at 10am to Rastoke to present to the public the newest addition to their gamut of tourist attractions: 100 kilometers of routes for Nordic walking in and around Slunj!

Nordic walking has become increasingly popular, and wonderful natural sights around Croatia are perfect to explore while walking, and can also help motivate you to walk further. So, the officials in charge of tourism in Slunj decided they needed to help tourists explore their region on foot, and Silvija Zoković from the http://www.nordijskohodanje.hr website helped them with routing of those routes and creation of maps for the tourist walkers. The idea is to bring tourists to Slunj pre and post peak tourist season (which is, honestly, probably not the best time to go on long walks, as it can be very hot in that period). It is also expected that some of the tourists will now be staying in Slunj, not just staying for a day visit, but rather prolonging their stay for at least another day to enjoy those walking routes. The routes being presented tomorrow are a network which might take more than a week to fully discover.

Tomorrow you will be able to take a walk with the guides along Korana and Slušnica, two rivers in Slunj which merge on the wonderful Rastoke falls into one mighty Korana. You’ll be able to see Napoleon’s magazine and the fortress of the Frankopan family. Then they will take you over Moćan’s bridge to one of the nicest paths along the Slušnica river, a gorgeous clean-water river (potable all along its length!) and you’ll get to see its spring. There are many benches on the routes, so you can easily take a break and enjoy the nature, and all those wanting to wander around will enjoy the detailed markings on the routes and maps of the highest quality and attention to detail.

After the guided tour tomorrow you will be able to enjoy the free bean stew (traditional meal in Croatia always offered on the International Worker’s Day on May 1st). At 4 pm, on the town’s football field a free course in Nordic walking will be organized, where proper walking and pole-handling techniques will be shown to anyone interested. For that occasion, you will be able to borrow the poles from the organisers. All of the events of the day will be free to anyone participating.
