An automotive step back in time in Solin.

On Saturday, fifty classic cars and motorcycles have returned Solin to years gone by. The streets were filled with rare old taxis and luxury vehicles. The international old-timer automobile meeting was organized by the members of the Old-timer Club Zvonimir from Solin, on the occasion of the Day of the City of Solin, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on August 31, 2015.

It all began with the arrival of the cars to the Zvonimir Street near the Post Office, when people could check out the beauties and talk with the drivers. This was the eight year that Renata and Drago Kuković from Slovenia came to Solin in their 1924 Dodge, which was the the oldest old-timer at the event. Peter and Martina Pflug, who came from Leipzig in Germany with a MG TD produced in 1954, traveled the furthest to come to Solin. They received many congratulations because two days earlier they celebrated their fiftieth marriage anniversary.

One of the most interesting cars was a 1949 Fiat Balilla 1100 E which was in production from 1938 to 1953. It is owned by Denis Marušić from Makarska and is special due to the fact that the rear of the car has been transformed into a trailer which is used for weddings. “It is just for fun and for friends”, explained Denis who said that he has been tinkering with old cars since childhood.

The oldest motorcycle at the event was a 1939 Zundapp, owned by Marin Šestić from Tučepi. He said that he found the motorcycle in a tavern in Omiš. It was not assembled, and parts were hanging from a rafter. He wanted to buy it, but some of the parts were missing. However, the owner helped him find the parts, so Marin decided to buy and assemble the motorcycle.

The participants were welcomed by the Solin mayor Blaženko Boban and Maja Novaković, secretary of the Association of Technical Culture of the City of Split. The next stop for these beautiful classic cars was Mravinska Glavica, were a small reception was held. The cars then went to Malačka where the memorial cross for the fallen veterans is located, and finally to the eco-ethno village Škopljanci in Radošić, where a special sport competition was organized. Everything ended with a lunch and the presentation of awards and acknowledgments.
