A ballet extravaganza in Dubrovnik last night.
On February 9, 2016, in a very crowded Sports Centre at 07:30pm, the Imperial Russian Ballet performed the timeless Swan Lake much to the delight of spectators in the City of Dubrovnik. Following a highly successful tour last year and a sell out performance of the equally famous ”The Nutcracker” in Dubrovnik, they returned again to the city.
The ballet “Swan Lake” is not only arguably the most well known, but also the most lyrical of performances, a fairytale legend about a normal girl who is transformed into a bird. In the traditional story, the evil wizard casts a spell on the girls, turning them into a flock of birds, and only at night can they be re-transformed back into human figures.
The Imperial Russian Ballet performed the original story, but with a happy ending, which was altered by Russian dictator Josef Stalin during his reign over the former Soviet Union. Subtle revision and variations were also introduced by Gediminas Taranda, the artistic director of the Russian Imperial Ballet.
Now, a huge 138 years after the very first performance, the Imperial Russian Ballet presents this masterpiece as a ballet in three acts.
