Promenade in Istria Named After Stjepan Hauser of 2Cellos

Stjepan Hauser, one half of the world-famous 2Cellos duo, is getting a walking trail named after him in Rakalj, Istria

Most of the world knows who Stjepan Hauser is, or has at least seen his face in massively popular videos of the cellist duo. However, not many people know he has roots in a small town of Rakalj, located near Pula in Istria.

As Hauser is one of the greatest ambassadors of Rakalj, Pula and Istria in general, the community in Rakalj decided it was about time they honoured him by naming a part of town after the famous musician. The Stjepan Hauser walking trail is officially opening today, August 6, with a manifestation that will take hikers and cyclists along five kilometres of the gorgeous coast.

The path starts in Kalavojna, goes via Luka bay and ends at St. Mikula cape. And no, no matter how amusing that would be, Luka bay isn’t named after Hauser’s colleague Luka Šulić, but it’s worth noting the bay wasn’t accessible by foot before the new trail was introduced.

Hikers will gather at 15:00 and set off for Luka bay, where they will take a well-deserved dip around 17:00. The cyclists will depart at 16:00, and all participants will gather at St. Mikula cape in late afternoon to have some maneštra stew. As no event in Istria can come to a close without a party, everyone’s invited to Luka bay around 20:00 for a concert of klapa Rišpet and other surprise music guests.

Hauser is, of course, delighted by the whole thing. He co-financed the renovation of the trail and said he was humbled and very happy to get such a beautiful pathway named after him.

Here is his original announcement, followed by another Facebook post where he shared a couple of gorgeous photos of the coast of Rakalj:
