Refugee Week(s) in Croatia

Total Croatia News

Zagreb, Rijeka, Split, Kutina, and Osijek are some of the cities in which Refuge Week #4 programme (“4. tjedni IZBJEGLICAma”) will take place June 12 – 25.

Various organisations who have joined to create the Coordination for Integration and partners are organising the event with the aim of stimulating the creation of meeting spaces and encouraging understanding between new and old society members, in order to foster inclusiveness.

This is the fourth edition of the event – the first one was organised only in Zagreb, and now it has spread to other cities as well.

June 20 is the day the world commemorates the strength, courage, and perseverance of millions of refugees. UNHCR Global Trends report finds 65.3 million people, or one person in 113, were displaced from their homes by conflict and persecution in 2015. The Republic of Croatia has accepted a small number of refugees so far and the society is still polarized when it comes to their inclusion.

This event aims at raising the awareness among politicians, general public and inhabitants of Croatia about refugees’ position through various reforms: public debates, press conferences, cultural events, etc.

There will be book promotions, film screenings, workshops for adults and children, and Red Cross is organising a workshop at Zagreb’s INmusic Festival as well.
