In Rovinj next month?
Some of the worlds top polo players will be returning to Rovinj for the third annual Rovinj Beach Polo Cup held in the city between the 8th and 10th of June, 2018.
Following two highly successful tournaments organised by the Adris Group and Maistra, the popular Rovinj Beach Polo Cup will return in all its glory. This year’s edition of the tournament will once again bring together elite players of this royal sport, and will be held at their traditional location at Rovinj’s Porton Biondi Beach.
The official sports part of the tournament will be accompanied by an entertainment programme with many new features. The main star of this year’s evening entertainment is international star Sophie Ellis Bextor, who will perform at the polo arena on June the 9th as part of the Rovinj Summer Music Festival. The concert by this leading British singer, known for her hits ”Murder on the Dancefloor”, ”If This Ain’t Love”, and ”I Won’t Change You”, is also the first of many concerts of the Rovinj Summer Festival. The people of Rovinj and their guests will be able to enjoy performances by famous DJs, the ”Rovinj Majorettes”, and various dance acts. The Croatian representative at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Franka Batelić, will perform at the tournament’s closing ceremony.
As has been the case in previous years, visitors can expect fantastic entertainment. This year, they have introduced both day and evening matches which will be held in the new polo arena. The matches will be played on sand by six international teams with players of 11 different nationalities with more than 60 Argentine polo ponies. Polo fans and all the town’s visitors will have an opportunity to witness a traditional parade of polo players and ponies from the polo arena to the town centre. ”We’re also delighted to announce the participation of four female players in the tournament this year,” said Uwe Zimmermann, president of the Rovinj Beach Polo Cup’s organising committee.
In order to raise the level of enjoyment for the guests of the tournament, the organisers are planning an even bigger auditorium, and a new modern-looking arena overlooking the Old Town of Rovinj. The guests will be able to follow the polo matches from a VIP lounge on three levels. During the tournament, Rovinj’s best restaurants will be offering special menus dedicated to this event with menu items at special prices.
The Rovinj Beach Polo Cup places Rovinj and Croatia alongside top polo destinations such as Dubai, New York, and Miami, and reaffirms Rovinj, Istria, and all of Croatia as a desirable and interesting destination. At the same time, the tournament attracts many celebrities to Rovinj from both Croatia and abroad, and contributes to an increase in the number of overnight stays in the shoulder season in accommodation facilities of the highest category: four-star and five-star hotels.
