Interesting lecture on the future of sailboats in Split today.
Former students and alumni of the Faculty of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and naval architecture are returning to Split with their Science cafe on March 22, 2016 with an interesting lecture Sailboats: Boats of tomorrow, back to the future. Program starts at 18:30 and it will be held in the Lvxor cafe.
Keynote speaker, prof.dr.sc. Branko Klarin will present the latest initiatives in the construction of new generation of boats. According to prof Klarin, 45000 freights boats that are operational today all use fossil fuels and create emissions equivalent to millions of cars. In order to reduce harmful emissions and still keep the freight costs in acceptable levels, designers and engineers all over the world are working on new models that will use sails and alternative sources of energy along with standard fuels. Sails will be hard and automated, they would automatically adjust to various sailing regimes and available wind resources. During the lecture all visitors will be able to see how far the projects have advanced and how close they are to final realisation.
Science cafe project started back in 2009 and since then more than 60 editions of this event were held across Split. Entrance is free.
