Top Croatian scientists gather at the Alka Knights Court to popularize science
6th Science Festival started in Sinj on November 2, 2015. Once again top scientists have gathered to promote knowledge, excellence, innovativeness and science as fundamental values for the development of society and economy.
First day of the festival brought a very interesting round table on the brain drain but also about brain influx. According to panelists, Croatia has been slowly dying out for the last 20 years, and as renowned demographer Stjepan Šterc stated, up to 40 000 young, educated people leave the country every year, contrary to the data published by official statistics. However, no one seems to care much about these numbers.
Academic Dario Vretnar stated than young people leaving to live abroad doesn’t necessarily have to pose a problem “Young people should get the chance to gain experience, however, we must work on enabling them to come back home” he said.
6thScience Festival is organized under the auspices of the President of Croatia, and in his address, representative of the President, Andro Krstulović Opara said: ‘This event shows how important it is o making science more popular, Science is nothing else than the “salt” of society and an exquisite segment that is often forgotten in the overall media cacophony. When we add culture, which is also marginalized, and when we combine this beautiful Alka Knighs Court, which is a fusion of culture and heritage, with the promotion of science we get something that supersedes the importance of Sinj and Dalmatia. This is a Croatian festival of the utmost importance and it shows all other areas in the country how to popularize science and how to talk about science in a qualified manner which is understandable to everyone, especially those that will tackle science in the future since science is the main generator of every society”.
Festival is taking place until Saturday, November 7 2015, at the Alka Knights Court in Sinj.
