Smart booths will provide free wi-fi access, and citizens and tourists will be able to buy parking tickets and tickets for intercity buses.
The first smart phone booths in Croatia were presented in Zadar. They will serve as a source for all necessary local information for citizens and the ever increasing number of tourists. They will also provide a range of innovative ICT services that citizens will be able to safely pay for with their credit and debit cards, thanks to the cooperation with the Croatian Postal Bank, reports Večernji List on May 3, 2017.
With this project, Zadar will become part of the global trend of the development of smart cities, a list that already includes cities such as New York and London, which are also transforming their public telephone booths, giving them new purpose in line with the modern needs of citizens and tourists.
By the end of the week, a total of ten phone booths will be set up at the busiest locations in Zadar. They which provide free access to the wi-fi network, and citizens and tourists will be able to use them to buy parking tickets and tickets for intercity buses. Also available are BitCoin, Simpa and BonBon Start packages, phone cards and mobile phone top up cards of all operators, with the additional ability to pay a certain amount directly to a mobile number managed by Croatian Telecom. The offer will also include a range of other Telecom products.
“Smart phone booths provide a range of publicly available services that are needed for the modern life of citizens and visitors of Zadar, which is in line with the development strategy of the City of Zadar and with the smart city concept. This project revitalises existing locations by building a part of the smart city infrastructure and providing the potential for developing additional digital services to be offered as part of the smart city approach, such as ‘smart sensing’ which enables informative measurements of the parameters from the environment. Also, this pilot project will increase the number of locations and the availability of public and other services.” said the Mayor of Zadar Božidar Kalmeta at the presentation event for the smart phone booths project.
