Spiderman in Action: Love Message Pops Up on Skyscraper in Rijeka (Video)

‘You was my first love’, says a four-storey-high graffiti on the side of a building in Rijeka.

It’s not every day that you see some fresh graffiti appear high above ground – and yet, the citizens of Rijeka woke up to see a gigantic declaration of love on one of the higher buildings in the city on May 8, 2018.

A skyscraper in Čandekova street in Rijeka now bears an inscription saying ‘you was my first love’ – an inscription spanning over multiple storeys, making the locals wonder how the mysterious creator managed to pull it off in the first place. After all, the skyscraper in question used to be known as the highest building in the city back when Rijeka was still a part of Yugoslavia.

There’s no scaffolding on the building at the moment, and the inscription is simply too big in size to have been written by someone leaning out the window. It’s vertically aligned and located some 50 metres above ground, covering a part of the wall spanning from the 17th to the 21st floor. Not exactly an easy feat – just how did the enamoured Spiderman place it there?

And so we wondered, we mused, we came up with several theories, but it was Novi list that finally shed some light on the mystery. They first published photos of the curious work – see them here. And then, a reader sent them a video taken from another bulding in the neighbourhood, showing an unidentified man carrying out his grand romantic gesture as he was hanging on a rope.

People had quite a lot to say about it. Simply put, comments ranged from ‘awww’ to ‘vandalism’; some of the locals found the faulty grammar to be the most troublesome factor. But it’s spring, and we’re willing to let this one slide – if the man in question is (still) smitten enough with his special someone to be willing to hang from the top of a skyscraper to make his feelings known, who are we to judge?
