Telemedicine in Croatia: New Approach to Shorten Waiting Lists

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 29th of September, 2020, all five health centres in Lika-Senj County will soon receive holters, devices for 24-hour ECG monitoring of heart rate and devices for 24-hour blood pressure measurement, as well as high-speed internet and the possibility of sending those results online to specialists, which is the beginning of telemedicine in Croatia, reports Zimo.

At a meeting with Prefect Darko Milinovic and the directors of health centres, the director of the Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine, Maja Grba Bujevic, said this on Monday in Gospic. She announced that telemedicine in Croatia would significantly shorten waiting lists and increase the availability of specialist health services to the public.

The Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine has this opportunity, and telemedicine is especially important for patients who are in areas such as Lika-Senj County, where the distance from specialists is great and they have had to travel until now, said Grba Bujevic.

At the same time, an e-training project for health and non-health workers will be implemented by the Institute of Emergency Medicine organising professional lectures, and participants will not have to travel to them, but will join a video conference on the subject of the introduction of telemedicine in Croatia.

Prefect Milinovic, who is himself also a doctor, has said that he and all those working in various health centers (in Gospic, Otocac, Korenica, Senj and Novalja) are extremely interested in the project, so next week they will send a request to the Institute with a review to make sure that spatial and all of the other necessary preconditions are provided for this project’s implementation.
