The first TEDXDUBROVNIK debuted on October 28, 2016 at the Marin Drzic theatre in Dubrovnik’s old city.
More than a dozen engaging and talented speakers from the world of sport, art, music and various other fields presented their stories, with an entertained audience asking questions about their lives and experiences.
Speakers (in no particular order) included experienced and respected writer and tourism worker, Bozidar Jukic, entrepreneur and creator of many very successful projects in the area, Branimir Brkljac, columnist, psychologist and author of eight books, Tomica Scavino, Sinisa Car, the cardiologist from Varazdin who shot to fame recently after taking up a job as a family doctor on the island of Mljet, courageous public relations expert Aleksandra Kolaric, curator, gallerist, project leader and documentary director Gael Gottwald, Slovenian artist and cultural activist Ljoba Jence, founder of Dignitas, an organisation which brings together young talent in the field of art and engineering, Mihaela Lekic, language expert and biblical scholar Srecko Koralija, Washington native Rebecca Charry Roy, who began the greatest adventure of her life when she moved from the USA to Dubrovnik in 2001, Paralympic sensation with a haul of 26 medals under his belt, Mihovil Spanja, and last but by absolutely no means least, Microentreprener of the year 2015, Elizabeth Planinic.
Lectures were accompanied by musical numbers from Dubrovnik’s very own young classical guitarist, Lovro Barisic, and the talented duo, Igor Vlahusic & Maja Grgic.
TEDxDubrovnik was opened by the legendary Dubrovnik professor of philosophy and sociology, Davor Ljubimir with the help of Dolores Brbora and Victoria Knezevic, who ensured that each speaker was briefly and clearly introduced to a keen audience through her mini introductions.
TEDxDubrovnik was successfully completed this afternoon in three smooth blocks, and a satisfied audience came, listened, ask, and enjoyed, certainly leaving the theatre inspired by the experiences, highs, lows and life stories of several inspirational people who explained what ”living for tomorrow” means for them.
Let’s hope this was the first of many TEDxDubrovniks!
