Strudel record brings media and more visitors to the Green Heart of Croatia.

The Guinness World Records certificates have arrived from London to Jaškovo, a village near the town of Ozalj, where a 1,479.38 metre long strudel was baked last September. The certificates and about thirty acknowledgements have been awarded to all the people who helped achieve this success, reports Poslovni.hr on June 16, 2016.

The certificates for the longest strudel in the world went to the tourist destination the Green Heart of Croatia, the Tourist Board of the Town of Ozalj and Žganjer Restaurant, where the ceremony was held. Lidija Žganjer-Gržetić, the owner of Žganjer, said that only after the record was broken it became clear how important this project was for the tourism in the area.

The Guinness record turned out to be a way for gastronomical branding of the region. Žganjer-Gržetić also announced the Štrudelfest that will be held in September. At least 50 participants will be coming to the festival to show their strudels made using different recipes and in accordance with various traditions.

Gordana Lipšinić, the mayor of Ozalj, and Željko Car, the head of the Ribnik Municipality, are both representatives of the local self-governments which, together with Karlovac, created a joint tourist destination called Green Heart of Croatia. According to them, the project has brought the communities closer and made them realize that together they can achieve valuable goals. “Only hard work and togetherness can enable us to push the limits and break the records”, said Car.

Tihana Bakarić, director of the Karlovac Tourist Board, said that, from a marketing point of view, breaking the record has already brought good results and will continue to serve their marketing goals. She mentioned the media coverage and the increased interest in the area, as well as the visits of the foreign media representatives that were the result of both the Guinness record and of the marketing program of the Croatian Tourist Board “Croatia 365”.
