2015 was an eventful year in Croatia, but which were the hit viral videos that captured the most popular moments in the country?

As another year began in Croatia on January 1, 2016, there were plenty of article online looking back at the previous year. The rise of social media and the sharing ability of media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube has ensured that locally filmed events can become Internet hits around the world, within hours. 

Here are the top 5 viral videos of 2015 on YouTube, with ‘Croatia’ in the title – a rather eclectic overview of Croatia that was 2015.

There were many new things introduced into the lives of people in Croatia, and for those over the age of 16, these included the culture of the YouTuber. The arrival of popular YouTubers Oli White and Joe Sugg brought near-hysteria to female teenage Split, as they were whisked off by the Central Dalmatia Tourist Board for a quick three-day tour of the sights. The result – more than 1.2 million views from their first day’s antics.

One of the most popular shows of the year on Croatian television, and one which was hotly discussed in the nation’s cafes was of course The Voice. The quickest way to celebrity status for mere unknowns, stars of The Voice quickly became Internet hits two. The most popular song on YouTube goes to Nina Kraljic, with more than 1.2 million watching her ‘Wicked Game.’

YouTubers Sugg and White were back with an even more popular hit video on the island of Hvar, with almost 2.4 million views, and Total Croatia News is proud of the small part it played in suggesting and then organising the swim for the two young Brits in the underwater aquarium of exclusive fish restaurant Gariful, complete with baby shark for company.

2015 was of course the year that the Croatia National Tourist Board officially retired its super successful ‘The Mediterranean as It Once Was’ slogan in favour of ‘Croatia, Full of Life’. The trailer to the new video proved a hit, with almost three million views.

And while Croatia, Full of Life may have had its popularity boosted by various promotions and sponsored ads, one could not accuse the clear winner, with 5.5 million views, of being anything but organic growith, in a wonderful reaction by a grumpy farmer, who finally decided to take action against people parking on his land while visiting nearby shops. While the cars were safely parked and their owners away, he simply ploughed up the field around them, thereby preventing them from leaving the field.
