A busy season of quality music gets underway this week in Zagreb.
The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will open its 145th season with a concert on Friday, September 25. The honour of conducting the first concert of the new 2015/2016 season has been given to an outstanding Croatian conductor Ivan Repušić, who has long been celebrated as one of the best conductors of the younger generation. He has already proven his talents with numerous successes in Croatia and abroad. Maestro Repušić is a big star of the German State Opera, as well as many other opera houses in Germany, where he regularly performs, reports Vecernji List on September 23, 2015.
For the jubilee season, the renowned Croatian composer Sanja Drakulić has decided to give to the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra her newest composition – “Kepler-452b, For a Large Symphony Orchestra”. The audience will have the opportunity to hear the concert premiere of the composition which will surely enrich the Croatian music.
Russian virtuoso cellist Alexander Rudin will perform solos in Dvorak’s Concerto for Cello. The mutual affection between the Zagreb audience and maestro Rudin started during his previous concerts in Zagreb – in addition to being a world-famous cellist, Rudin is also a prominent conductor. The Zagreb audience had a chance to see him in both roles for which he has received numerous accolades.
Prior to each of the concerts in this year’s cycle, the audience is invited to attend the introductory discussion about the works being performed. For the first concert, the audience will hear from the composer Sanja Drakulić and a member of the orchestra, cellist Smiljana Mrčela.
The opening concert will be attended by a large number of dignitaries from the cultural, social and public life of Croatia, who will together with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra celebrate its big anniversary and wish it many more successful seasons.
