After visitors run around and about the city’s landmarks, beers are next.
Some local amateur runners have combined their hobbies and their jobs to create “Run Zagreb” tours, which include the Medvednica mountain, Maksimir Park, and other attractive locations. Why? Because they wanted to present Zagreb in an innovative way, reports Večernji List on June 26, 2016.
Sandra Bortek, Hrvoje Horvat, Tamara Markotić and Ivan Videk all have experience in tourism and have now launched a project where they take tourists sightseeing while running. According to them, they are not the first nor the last who offer this kind of service. They researched the offer and services abroad and realized that the running tours were among the most popular sightseeing methods.
“Run Zagreb is an invitation to tourists-runners to recognize both Zagreb and Croatia as racing destinations, where they can remain active during their vacation or plan them in accordance with the race timeframes”, said Sandra Bortek, adding that in addition to Maksimir and Medvednica, there are also tours in the upper and lower part of the town and at the Sava embankment. They are divided into the racing ones, which are more intensive, and jogging tours which are a good fit for almost any person that is at least a little bit physically active.
“When we go to a lighter-pace tours, we usually run six kilometres, but we also stop next to each tourist attraction and we say something about it. At the end, we have beer with the runners”, said Bortek. “Those who want a more intense pace will run 12 kilometres, and they visit the Upper Town, Green Horseshoe, Tuškanac Park, Dubravkin Put and other spots”, she explained.
They usually run six kilometres per hour if they are in a group, and if someone wants a personalized tour they can adapt. But, they do not leave anyone behind. Scheduled tours are not being cancelled due to bad weather. They will run even when it is raining or snowing. Meanwhile, three months ago, they launched their website www.RunZagreb.com, which includes the racing calendar and promotes Croatia’s racing.
One tour currently costs 25 euros. Run Zagreb is also open for residents of Zagreb who want to do their racing training or jogging in a slightly different way. Many locals will be surprised with some new pieces of information about their hometown which they were unaware of until now.
