There is a lot of talk lately about Croatia and recycling, and it seems concerns have been noted as the the town of Novi Vinodolski responds to Japans unusual appeal…
Novi Vinodolski, a quiet coastal town just south of Crikvenica and north of Senj has responded to the Japanese appeal for old mobile phones, cameras, and portable devices. Yes, old mobile phones for the bastion of technology that is Japan, you read that correctly.
Japan recently released an appeal for old mobile phones to be donated to help manufacture medals in preparation for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games which are set to take place in Tokyo. It is claimed that a massive eight tonnes of outdated devices are needed in order to produce the medals from high quality metal. The unassuming Croatian town of Novi Vinodolski has readily responded to the request by following in the footsteps of the Japanese by collecting the old devices using drop off containers at the office for the City Administration.
If you’re in the possession of a beaten up old camera or a Nokia 3310 (that probably still works and has 90% battery left) feel free to donate. The Organising Committee for the Olympic Games in Tokyo have stated that they are hoping to take millions of devices, broken, functioning or otherwise.
