This will be the sixth edition of the charity run which takes places simultaneously across the world.

The registration period for the Wings for Life World Run, the most massive charity race in the world, has started. The race will be held in Zadar for the sixth consecutive year on May 5, 2019, starting at 1 pm. About 9,000 registered runners – professionals and amateurs – are expected to take part, simultaneously with thousands of other runners across the world, reports Večernji List on October 4, 2018.

Although the race does not have a finish line, it has a goal: to make spinal cord injuries curable. The entire amount from registration fees and donations will be forwarded to the international non-profit Wings for Life Fund, which funds state-of-the-art scientific and clinical research around the world in order to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Just in 2018, over three million euro has been raised with which 67 research projects were funded in 15 countries around the world.

Since 2014, when the global movement began, Zadar has hosted the Croatian edition of the race. The race reached full capacity almost every year even before 2018, but this year the starting slots were sold out almost one month before the start.

About 8,500 people gathered at the start in Zadar on May 6, and Zadar joined many other cities around the world, such as Munich, Vienna, and Melbourne. In addition to 12 mass races organised around the world, runners can take part in the initiative through a phone app, so a total of 66 countries with more than 100,000 registered participants took part in the global race.

The Wings for Life World Run is a race which is already well-known in Croatia. The first Sunday in May in Zadar has become a synonym for love, tolerance and understanding. Many have learned a lot about the problems encountered by people in wheelchairs, and with each step in the run, we are one step closer to fulfilling the goal: to make spinal cord injuries a thing of the past.

The project will not stop until that happens, and that is why Zadar will once again bring together all those who run for those who cannot.
