ZAGREB, February 11, 2018 – The Ecological Map of the City of Zagreb, which brings together data on the state of the environment and facilitates decision making on the sustainable development of the city, was presented earlier this week.
This unique project is an important step forward in protecting human health and the environment and in efficient urban planning, said Sandra Šikić, deputy director of the Andrija Štampar Teaching Institute of Public Health.
The map was designed by the Andrija Štampar Institute in cooperation with the City of Zagreb, the Medical Research Institute, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Meteorological and Hydrological Service.
The Ecological Map is an operating tool which will enable the relevant authorities to better manage land and space, protect the living and working environment and improve healthcare. The map will be regularly updated with data from different areas of environment testing, including testing the quality of the air, water and soil, Sikic said.
Andrija Štampar director Zvonimir Šostar said that this year they would install over 70 environmental sensor stations to cover the entire city.
