A three-month-old cub has finally come out of the lair of red pandas. He is an irresistible boy, the first young cub of the six-year-old Popi and four-year-old Ema, reports Index.hr on September 28, 2018.
The Zagreb-Dortmund couple has been in a loving relationship at the Zagreb Zoo for three years now, and they finally have an opportunity to prove themselves as parents. They are exceptionally caring, thanks to which the young cub is making exceptional progress.
“We have been waiting for the cub for three years, but the wait has been totally worth it. The red panda dynasty in Zagreb now finally has a new member. We have been following the lives of Popi’s parents, him, and his brothers and sisters for years. While his brothers are continuing their family in other zoos in Europe, we were expecting his heir here in Zagreb. Perhaps he felt the pressure,” said Damir Skok, director of the Zagreb Zoological Gardens.
The young cub is developing at least as well as his peers in nature. Cubs initially spend a lot of their time with their mothers. When they strengthen enough, they leave the lair.
Red pandas are an endangered species, so each individual is extremely important. The Zagreb cub is proof of his family’s well-being provided by the zoo experts.
In order to get citizens more acquainted with this animal species, the Zagreb Zoological Gardens regularly celebrate the Red Pandas Day. This year it will be held on Saturday, 10 November.
On that day, Mia Dimšić will announce the name of the cute little panda. Citizens can send their proposal for the name through the Zagreb Zoological Gardens Facebook page.
