April the 24th, 2024 – The new A1 Croatian motorway exit has opened. Seven million euros were poured into the works, and the toll booth is fully automated.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, a brand new exit from the A1 Croatian motorway has now been opened. It’s called the Podi junction and it is located between the Šibenik and Vrpolje junctions. This new exit enables a direct connection of the new Podi economic zone with the motorway itself, without the need for vehicles to travel through the main entrance/exit towards the City of Šibenik.
The new A1 Croatian motorway exit is not only connected to the Podi economic zone, but will also free up local roads from heavier and typically burdensome truck traffic. This new eastern approach to the city, located seven kilometres from Šibenik, will provide a better and safer traffic connection for the many suburbs dotted around Šibenik.
“The Podi junction has two toll gates, one entrance and one exit. The entire node is equipped with LED lighting, which will significantly contribute to cost reduction. In addition to all of that, as part of the construction of the node, it was necessary to build a connecting road, four ramps, and a connection to the work zone. There are also three roundabouts with connections, two plateaus for the toll passage, and we also needed to expand the motorway part of the road to form acceleration and deceleration lanes,” they explained from HAC.
On top of that, the new A1 Croatian motorway exit is embracing digitisation. The new toll booth is fully automated and there are no cashiers working there at all. Toll fees are cashless and can be paid at the exit only with bank, oil and smart cards and an ENC device. The total value of the Podi node construction works stands at around seven million euros.
