August 19, 2023 – This week it has been partly sunny in most areas with rain and thunder, mostly in Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem. Dalmatia, on the other hand, has enjoyed sunny weather with temperatures up to 33 °C. Do not become too relaxed, as another heat wave in Croatia is coming over the weekend and next week.
“The heat will be most pronounced in the northern part of the Adriatic with a moderate risk of health effects, and in Lika the temperature may rise to 29°C. It will be sunny in Gorski Kotar in the afternoon with a stronger development of clouds and some short-term showers with thunder that may affect the Rijeka area as well. Some fog in the valleys of the mountain areas in the morning. At night and in the morning moderate, at the foot of Velebit with gusts and a strong gale, which will weaken and turn into a north-westerly,” meteorologist Tomislav Kozarić reported for HRT/writes 24Sata.
There will be plenty of sun in Dalmatia, the temperature will reach 34°C during the day, and the night will also be warm. In the morning, a weak and moderate gale, from the middle of the day a moderate north-westerly and westerly wind. The sea will be mostly calm with small waves, at a temperature of around 26°C.
The southern Adriatic will have bright days. During the day a moderate south-westerly wind, on the open sea north-westerly, with the highest temperature around 32°C. The sea will be moderately wavy in some places.
Showers Possible Today, Heat Wave Coming
Today will be mostly sunny with occasional moderate cloud cover, primarily in the eastern part of the interior and in the afternoon in Dalmatia. In these areas, a few showers accompanied by thunder or rain are most likely.
The wind will be weak, in the mountains and in the interior of Dalmatia a moderate north-easterly. Weak and moderate on the Adriatic, at the foot of Velebit strong gales, during the day in the open, a north-westerly. Morning air temperature from 15 to 20, on the Adriatic between 21 and 26 °C. Due to the heat wave, a warning is in effect for several cities for the next few days. Record temperatures are expected in Rijeka on Monday, August 21. DHMZ warns of a very high risk of heatstroke.
