This will be the third of the four planned passageways.
The construction work on building a news passageway under the western part of Hrvatske bratske zajednice Street, connecting the National and University Library and Zagreb fountains, started today at 8 a.m., Večernji list reports on October 30, 2017.
This will be the third of the four planned passageways, two connecting the fountains to the National and University Library and two connecting them to the Trnje district of the city. The initial plan was for the passageways to include motion sensors so that the lighting could be adjusted when citizens went through it, and the walls of the passageways were supposed to be a sort of canvas for writing, with messages featured on Trnje Post-It portal, an Internet portal of sorts for the citizens living in Trnje.
In addition, before the passageways were built, there had been talks of turning the fountains into an ice-skating rink. The first two fountains were built around Christmas, 2012, while three more fountains were built in 2016. The construction of the fountains cost around HRK 50 million and they were designed by architect Helena Paver Njirić.
According to zagreb.hr, the HRK 2.5 million passageway should be finished in six months, and it will feature a wheelchair ramp and a new staircase.
