July the 24th, 2024 – For the first time in sixty long years, Arbanija on the island of Čiovo has a renewed maritime connection to Split. The Arbanija-Split line has been met with a firm “hallelujah” from islanders.
It’s sometimes quite remarkable that a country so historically heavily reliant on the sea and all things maritime, not to mention a country with so many islands, has some rather poor island to island connections. It has been an issue for both islanders and those living on the mainland for quite some time now, with new maritime connections periodically being put into place from time to time only.
Thankfully, the residents of the central Dalmatian island of Čiovo (particularly those living in or near Arbanija) can breathe a sigh of relief. Getting to Split Port and as such having numerous other onward transport connections available to them just got easier thanks to the new Arbanija-Split line, operated by Bura Line.
As Morski writes, the new Arbanija-Split line will make it a lot easier for islanders who sometimes have to push through traffic jams in Kaštela for almost an hour just to get to Split. The bus can also sometimes take up to an hour and a half, especially in peak season.
The new Arbanija-Split line is being operated by Bura Line. After the recent fire owing to which their passenger ship burned down in Čiovo, the company seems to have overcome any problems.
Paula Vidović, director of the Agency for Coastal Lines, confirmed that this new maritime connection should have actually begun operating much easier, but the fire and the issues that followed caused a delay.
The islanders from Arbanija will be able to reach Split by boat in just fifteen minutes. According to the sailing schedule published by the Agency for Coastal Liner Traffic, the new Arbanija-Split line will sail twice a day. It will head from Arbanija to Split at 08:15 and 14:45, and will sail back to Arbanija from Split at 13:00 and 20:00.
