May the 30th, 2024 – The popular Bačvice summer cinema (Ljetno kino Bačvice) is now open for 2024’s season.

As Morski writes, the Bačvice summer cinema, a favourite green oasis of film lovers in Split, opened up for a new season on Wednesday, May the 29th. It did so with a screening of the modern classic “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, which is celebrating two decades since its premiere. The first visitors can enjoy a discount on drinks and a raffle where they can win tickets to FMFS.

In the first week of the programme, the Croatian classic “Train without a timetable (Vlak bez voznog reda)” by Veljko Bulajić is being shown at the Bačvice summer cinema. It is being shown as part of the Month of Croatian Film, which takes place in cinemas across Croatia throughout the month of May.

In more recent years, the much loved Bačvice summer cinema has become a nationally important stage for the premieres of plenty of new domestic films. This summer, we can expect numerous guest appearances. The first will be on on Thursday, June the 6th, the documentary film “Beautiful and Dear People (Lijepi i dragi ljudi)” will hit the screen. Filmmaker Igor Mirković has been following the actions of Croatian photographer Šime Strikoman and his Millennium Photography project for years. In addition to the director and producer, Šime Strikoman himself will be at the premiere, as was announced by Kino Mediteran.

On each Tuesday this season, a programme of classics under the title “Kineteka na Bačvice” will also continue. The very first to arrive is the iconic “Paris, Texas” by Wim Wenders, filmed forty years ago. A new acclaimed film by the same author will arrive just a few days later. Wim Wenders was otherwise nominated for an Oscar for the film “Perfect Days” and won two awards at the Cannes Film Festival.

During the first two weeks of the season at the Bačvice summer cinema, even fans of commercial films will not be disappointed. “Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga” will be shown. It’s a masterpiece by the genius George Miller and takes us back to the iconic dystopian world created more than 30 years ago with the cult Mad Max films. Then comes “Kaskader”, a hilarious action comedy with spectacular stunts. Fans of the cult “Planet of the Apes” films will be delighted with the new sequel called “Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom”.

The youngest visitors to the Bačvice summer cinema this season can expect the legendary “Garfield”, which is shown in a dubbed version on the first day of June, and Baby Lasagna is the voice of one of the cats.

The cinema box office opens an hour before each screening, and all film lovers who intend to go to the cinema often during the next three and a half months can secure a discount of 1 euro per ticket with a loyalty card. The rich cinema programme with all the details is available here, as are online tickets for all screenings.

The Bačvice summer cinema programme is being held with the support of the City of Split, the Split Tourist Board, the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
