Bodies of Two Unidentified Men Pulled Out of River

ZAGREB, June 14, 2020 – Croatian Mountain Rescue Service divers on Saturday searched the Mreznica river on orders from the Karlovac police and found in the evening the bodies of two unidentified men, of whose drowning the police were notified by a group of illegal migrants.

Karlovac police said their officers protecting the state border came across foreign nationals near Barilovic around noon and that they told them two persons drowned in the Mreznica.

A criminal investigation is underway to identify the drowned men and establish the circumstances of their deaths, police said.

Hina learned from the Karlovac police the foreigners found on the banks of the river did not request asylum, so they will be given a deadline to leave Croatia and the European Economic Area.
