For the needs of EU statistics, Croatia has been divided to Adriatic and Continental region, the latter being the motor of growth by employing more people and realizing higher profits.
Although Croatia is divided into 21 counties, for the needs of the EU statistics, Croatia consists of two regions, namely Continental and Adriatic Croatia, with the border in Karlovac County as the southernmost of the continental part. In view of this, the Financial Agency (FINA) has conducted an analysis of entrepreneurship in these two regions, according to which most economic activities take place in the continental region of Croatia, reports Poslovni.hr on September 7, 2017.
There are 71,391 entrepreneurs In the north of the country, or 62.4 percent of the total number in Croatia, and 43,092 in the Adriatic, or 37.6 percent. The difference is even more significant if looking at total income, profits and number of employees. At the end of last year, there were 612,570 employees employed by the entrepreneurs in the Continental Croatia who realized 492.5 billion kunas of total revenue, HRK 19.7 billion of net profits, and averaged a monthly net salary of 5239 kunas, which is 1.9 percent more when compared to the salaries at the national level..Business performance of 49,541 entrepreneurs, including particularly large public companies and multinational companies, influenced the profit growth of entrepreneurs in the north of the country.
Entrepreneurs in the Adriatic region employed 240,540 employees, which generated HRK 140.6 billion in revenue and 4.3 billion net profits, while the average salary was 4889 kuna, which is 4.9 percent lower than the national average. The number of entrepreneurs per 1000 working-age residents in the Adriatic is 36.2, while at the level of continental Croatia it is smaller, 29.7.
The situation was reversed with respect to the number of employees per 1000 working-age residents, which was higher in the north with 254.9 employees, and lower in the south region (Adriatic) where it was 201.8. When compared data of Continental with data of Adriatic region of Croatia, over the period from 2013 to 2106, it is evident that the number of entrepreneurs grew more in the continental Croatia, by 15.2 percent, while net profit rose by 753.2 percent. In the Adriatic, the number of employees grew by 5.9 percent, revenue by 12.4 percent, and pay by 10.4 percent. It should be noted that although these regions are of the same size, Continental Croatia has 14 counties, and the Adriatic has seven. The density of population is also identical since out of the 4.2 million inhabitants of Croatia, 2.8 million live in Continental and 1.4 million in the Adriatic region.
