An aviation first for Croatia Airlines.
Croatian national air carrier Croatia Airlines on Thursday received the internationally recognized White Flag award for preservation of purity of water areas and long-time environmental awareness in all business segments, reports Poslovni.hr on November 12, 2015.
It is the international award given by the International Union for the Conservation and Protection of the Seas, Rivers and Lakes (GUWAA) and the Foundation of Prince Albert II, given to companies and organizations which have made an extraordinary commitment to the protection and preservation of the seas, rivers and lakes, and which have contributed to raising the awareness of citizens about this global problem.
Croatia Airlines received the White Flag for the project of cleaning the seabed in the area of the Žaborić beach near Šibenik, which has been cleaned this summer by professional divers from the GUWAA association. At the same time, Croatia Airlines aircraft began running promotional film White Flag in order to spread public awareness of the project.
“For 25 years, Croatia Airlines has been continuously investing in the protection and preservation of the ecosystem by promoting environmentally friendly activities, as well as with the introduction of many technical and technological improvements in its business operations”, Kresimir Kučko, general manager of Croatia Airlines, said. He added that, despite popular belief, aircraft are less polluting than cars. For example, Airbus 320 flying from Zagreb to Split emits about 36 kilograms of carbon dioxide per passenger, while a passenger car on the same route emits about 46 kilograms.
Ambassador of GUWAA, Doris Pinčić Rogoznica, said that the White Flag has already been awarded to numerous organizations and companies. For example, the recognition has already been awarded to Hotel Bellevue in Mali Lošinj, Hotel Crvena Luka in Biograd, the Zlatni Rat beach in Bol, the municipality of Brela, Hotel Split in Podstrana, Blitz Cinestar and Vern Polytechnic.
