The strike was initially scheduled for July but was delayed after a meeting with the prime minister.
According to official information, it appears that the workers of Croatia Airlines who are members of the ORCA trade union have decided to launch a strike. The strike will begin on August 8, at 6 am, reports Index.hr on August 3, 2018.
“After a meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković held on July 6, we reached an agreement which included the prime minister’s promise that the necessary conditions would soon be fulfilled, which included an appointment of a new and competent management board. That would enable us to finally, after almost 20 months, sign the collective agreement which is the foundation of all civilized Western air carriers, and Croatia Airlines is one of them.
As you already know, at the time we decided to postpone the start of the strike.
To our great regret, the prime minister has not fulfilled his part of the agreement and therefore we are forced to announce the strike again, starting at 6 am on August 8, 2018.
Once again, we want to point out that this was the last option for us, but after even the latest agreement did not bring about any reaction from the owner’s representatives, we are unfortunately forced to take this step,” announced the ORCA (Organisation of Croatia Airlines Employees) in a statement send to the media.
The unhappy workers of Croatia Airlines postponed the strike a month ago because Prime Minister Plenković promised them he would deal with the accumulated problems in the state-owned air carrier. The ORCA representatives said unofficially that in the last month Prime Minister Plenković had not done anything to solve their problems, which is the reason why they will now launch the strike.
