After five false starts, Sea Air finally takes to the skies.
It is an airline start-up story which has become increasingly acrimonious, but at shortly after 15:00 local time on August 23, 2015, at Frankfurt Airport, flight MLT 312 landed from the Croatian city of Osijek, the inaugural flight of Sea Air from Croatia.
Today’s flight took place against a backdrop of five delayed launches, causing Osijek Airport to issue a strongly-worded statement last week:
“Sea Air’s actions have created big problems for us, as we were unable to fulfil projects with other companies in order to allow the airline to base an aircraft and hire at least ten staff. As a result, we no longer support this project”.
It remains to be seen what will happen now that the first successful flight, which arrived 29 minutes ahead of schedule, will affect things.
In addition to the four flights a week to Frankfurt, Sea Air will also service Munich and Stuttgart from Osijek three times a week, as well as daily flights to Mostar from Osijek. There will be additional flights from Mostar to Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, while a trans-continental connection from Sarajevo to Kuwait is scheduled to start on August 30.
