ZAGREB, February 12, 2018 – Croatian Economy Minister Martina Dalić and the U.S. Acting Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs, Sue Saarnio, on Monday agreed that the project of a future LNG on the Croatian island of Krk is of strategic importance.
According to a press release released after the Dalić-Saarnio meeting, the talks of the two officials revolved around Croatia’s international position in the context of Croatian and international energy security, with a special emphasis on the future LNG terminal on Krk.
The Croatian minister reiterated her country’s commitment to the construction of the LNG terminal which we will contribute to the diversification of supply routes and to the enhancement of the security of provision of gas supplies to Europe.
Dalić announced the adoption of the pertinent legislation for the networking of all processes in relation to the LNG terminal.
The officials are also agreed that this project will ensure a niche for Croatia on Europe’s energy map, whereby Croatia may become an energy hub of the European Union.
Earlier this month, the Croatian government declared the Krk LNG terminal project a strategic investment.
The EU has already set aside 101 million euro for this project in Croatia.
