The company hopes its solutions will soon be used in Croatia as well.
Cinnamon, a Zagreb-based company, has developed the Unimod Collect mobile app for the Swiss company VOLAG System. The app uses Bluetooth technology to read smart meters, reports Poslovni.hr on 27 July 2017.
VOLAG System is the leading Swiss company in the development of remote data collection and analysis solutions, and Cinnamon’s software will be used to read 2.2 million meters in Switzerland, which is one-third of all such devices in the country. The app is now used by some 200 customers, but the full implementation of the app is expected to start this week.
“The most challenging task was to develop stable communication between various smart meters in use, either for electricity, water or gas. Although the app has been developed for the Swiss market, I hope that similar solutions will quickly find their way to wider implementation in Croatia as well,” says Ivan Kovač, the CEO of Cinnamon and development manager for the Unimod Collect app.
The software has already been presented to interested parties in Croatia. Since it automates and accelerates the readout process, it is cost effective for everyone. “In Croatia, gas meters are currently read by the technology based on paper and pen, while water and electricity meters are done digitally. Still, Unimod Collect is significantly superior to any of the existing solutions,” explains Kovač.
The development of the app lasted for one and a half year, and the team included 15 developers and designers.
“We export software development services to several countries, most notably to Switzerland, Sweden, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, where we create solutions for finance, trade, logistics, education, etc. However, we mostly work on projects similar to Unimod Collect based on the Internet of Things principle, which makes possible to connect and manage devices and is the cornerstone for the development of smart cities,” says Kovač.
Cinnamon has major plans for Switzerland, where it has started cooperation with four innovative companies. “We have developed some interesting solutions in the area of smart parking, logistics, education, and one which could significantly change the legal services sector. In addition to working for clients, we also develop our own ideas like Blanket, an app for film-review tracking,” adds Kovač.
