An interesting idea for business cards from a young Croatian designer.
At the international design contest, IDA International Design Awards, held in Los Angeles, among more than 1,000 competitors from 52 countries, Croatian designer Ivan Dilberović won four awards. Dilberović won the silver award in the Print-Self Promotion category for the Play It project of vinyl business cards, which he designed for the Croatian Discography Association. The same project also received a special jury award in the Self Promotion category, reports Poslovni.hr on May 17, 2017.
Dilberović has collaborated with businesses such as Dilemma Posters, Aquarius, Yellow Submarine and Navis Hotel in Opatija, but one of his favourite projects is the design of business cards for the Croatian Discography Association. Everything started with the idea of recycling an old music record.
Ivan’s motto for the business cards was “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle”.
“As soon as the Croatian Discography Association invited me to design business cards for them, I immediately came to a great idea. I suggested that they use old gramophone records that had been left in a warehouse and the concept was accepted.” From each record, laser engraving yielded 10 business cards, and later on, the info about the person in question was added. No two business cards are the same, and it is interesting that each still contains a sound recording. I have tried them all – all the business cards can still play music,” explained Ivan.
The originality of Ivan’s idea is proven by more than 30 articles about the project published by some of the world’s major design internet websites. Among others, Ivan’s project has been presented by websites Fubis, Desing Week, Mix Mag and many others.
As a part of the IDA International Design Awards, Ivan received a silver award for the Hotel Navis Opatija project, in the Print – Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics category, as well as another special praise of the jury in the Logos, Trademarks and Symbols category.
