Production of fishing nets and fish farming cages is supported by the European Fund for Regional Development
The Tvornica Mreža i Ambalaže (Factory of Nets and Packaging) based in Biograd na moru is set to begin the realisation of a development project valued at 16.2 million Kuna. The expansion includes production capacity and technological upgrades with the help of non-refundable assets of the European Fund for Regional Development, whose share in the project is 4.3 million Kuna, Poslovni Dnevnik reported on July 12, 2016.
“The project will secure factory development by increasing competitiveness and production capacity, process modernisation and new products,” said Darko Eškinja, company owner.
10 new workers are planned, with a total of 100 employees by mid-2017. Investments since Eškinja owns the factory amount to 40 million Kuna. Last year’s income was 55 million. Along with the packaging programme for agricultural products – plastic bags for potatoes and onions for example, this factory is the only domestic producer of fishing nets and fish farming cages, so this project will bring needed advancement in both fields.
The Cromaris company is the largest domestic buyer. Domestic fishermen and fish farmers are also important, with new markets opening. “We are currently exporting 60% or products, mostly to Germany, Italy, Austria and Greece, while in the fall we will start selling cages for the farming of sea bass, bream and tuna in Australia,” Eškinja announced. A growth of export and income is expected from finishing services constructing nets, cages and packaging segments.
