European Bank for Reconstruction and Development sees opportunity for investors in Croatia.
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Emerging Europe platform hosted a conference on Croatia whose aim was to promote the country as an investment and cultural destination. The event in London brought together many familiar faces and numerous investors from the business world who discussed economic prospects of Croatia and investment opportunities, stressing its great potential, reports Poslovni.hr on January 31, 2016.
“There are many reasons which led us to organize this event. Croatia is a kind of bridge between the European Union and neighbouring countries of the Western Balkans and is poised to take the leading role in linking Central and Southeast Europe”, said the Bank in a statement. The conference was opened with speeches by EBRD Vice-President Betsy Nelson and Croatian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Ivan Grdešić. The head of the bank’s Zagreb office Vedrana Jelušić Kašić gave a presentation on the Croatian economy and opportunities.
The speeches were followed by a panel discussion on investment opportunities in the current macroeconomic and political environment which included the head of the Zagreb Stock Exchange Ivana Gažić, director of Navis Consult from Rolls-Royce Group Siniša Reljić, director of Podravka Zvonimir Mršić, Vedrana Lukan from British Business Centre Croatia and Hrvoje Bardek, a lawyer specializing in corporate law. Jelušić Kašić and Gažić prepared an expert review of Croatia in which they presented Croatia as an ideal blend of Europe and the Balkans with a well-developed infrastructure.
“The prospects for the future are promising given the fact that the new government is committed to strengthening the business environment and encouraging reforms and modernization”, said the authors. After the business part of the conference, the audience saw the film “Fishermen’s Conversations”, directed by Chiara Bove Makiedo. The plot is located on the island of Hvar and is inspired by Petar Hektorović’s eponymous literary work. The film follows the efforts of the island’s population and focuses on the preservation of traditional ways of life and identity of the island which is being increasingly presented as a party tourist destination, in particular for the young people.
