October 17, 2018 – A new global index of the safest (and least safe) countries to invest in. Where is Croatia?
The business community is getting more global, despite the best efforts of the current inhabitant of The White House, and foreign investors are always looking for the best opportunity.
The question is, where does Croatia sit in the global scheme of things?
A new study, combining a variety of factors, has Croatia lying just a little worse off than Romania in the global investment attractiveness stakes, far behind investment heaven in Denmark and a long way ahead of bottom-ranked Somalia.
“The Investment Frontier has produced its annual Investment Safety Rankings report for 2018. The site explains the methodology:
“We have sought to quantify the process of identifying countries that are safe to invest in through our Investment Safety Rankings. Three main factors are taken into consideration when deciding to invest in a new country:
Corruption and Rule of Law
Business Environment
Social and Political Risk
To measure these three factors, we looked at three main NGO rankings:
Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)
The World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Rankings (EDB)
Fund for Peace’s Fragile State Index (FSI)”
Croatia came in 42nd out of 192, down one from last year. Croatia was ahead of regional competitors such as Hungary and Bulgaria, but behind Romania and Slovakia. You can see the full Investment Safety Rankings here.
Croatia’s mid-table position is a little more conservative than the one presented at the 2nd Adriatic Health and Tourism Investment Forum in Zagreb last week, where one of the key claims for the Financial Times placing Croatia the destination with the 7th biggest potential for tourism investments. The same agency proclaimed Croatia ’32th’ out of 136 in tourism competitiveness – 32th, not 32nd.
Have you invested in Croatia? How was your experience, and how do you rate the investment climate in Croatia today?
