Installation of Major Equipment at First Cogeneration Plants Is Completed

Total Croatia News

Start of operations is expected in early 2017.

At the Sisak Power Plant site, the installation of turbines and generators for future cogeneration bio-plants has been finalized. Meanwhile at the Osijek Power Plant, after the installation of turbine and generator in July, there are now electrical and insulation works going on, as well as other works related to the installation of equipment. The same activities will soon commence in Sisak, reports Poslovni.hr on August 12, 2016.

The completion of works and the start of trial operations at the new power plants is expected in early 2017. Also, they are expected to obtain usage permits in the spring of next year. The future heating bio-plants in Sisak and Osijek, investments worth over 35 million euros, will also be the first power plants of this type within the HEP Group that have the status of eligible producers of energy from renewable sources and cogeneration. Sisak and Osijek power plants are built by a consortium of contractors led by the Đuro Đaković holding company and the Dutch company HoSt B.V.

The plant in Sisak will annually produce around 19,300 MWh of electricity and about 63,900 MWh of thermal energy. The value of the investments in Osijek was 16.25 million euros. According to HEP representatives, both plants will use forest biomass. HEP has secured the needed biomass by signing long-term contracts for the supply of wood chips.

Produced electricity will be transferred to the national energy system. Construction of the new HEP heating bio-plants will secure the reliable sources of the process steam for industrial manufacturers in Osijek, as well as thermal energy for the centralized heating systems of Osijek and Sisak. The construction of the first such power plants in Sisak and Osijek is a part of HEP’s long-term strategy to further increase the share of renewable energy activities in their existing product portfolio.
