Marina would cost up to 15 m,illion Euros and offer 700 commercial and non commercial berths

As reported by Index.hr on December 23, 2015, Zadar’s Jazine bay could soon be transformed into a ultra-modern marina for mega yachts. Entrepreneur Igor Karuc started presenting his planned project few weeks ago after almost for years of intensive work with a team of experts. Feasibility study is under way, several design options are in play and according to Kordić there are several serious investors interested in the project including several companies from the UK, Russia, Italy and France. Marina should have 300 commercial berths, 400 berths for smaller boats and 10 berths for mega yachts.

According to Kordić’s team of experts the whole project will take about 12 months to build and it would require an investment of 12,5 to 15 million Euros but after its completion Zadar would have one of the most modern marinas in the Mediterranean. As far as the design of the marina is concerned, one of the most attractive and most noticeable parts is the new function and look of the main city bridge which is one of the symbols of Zadar. According to designer’s vision, the bridge would remain in its current location but its area above sea level would expand from the current 6 to 30 metres. This would turn this bridge into a square above the sea complete with its own promenade, cafes and restaurants and it would definitely soon become as attractive as the world renowned Zadar sites Sea organ and Greeting to the sun.

The bridge would open in the middle to allow the passage of sailboats but that would not stop pedestrian crossing since an underwater tunnel would be built for that purpose complete with escalators and large aquariums giving all pedestrians an unforgettable experience. A team of designers from Zadar is working on the project including Pero Marušić, Zoran Popovič and Lenka Martinović and one of the world’s best bridge specialists, Santiagto Calatrava was also consulted. Project has been sent to the City of Zadar, Zadar County, Ministry of Tourism and Development Agency and so far their reactions ahve been positive and they are all ready to back the idea.

One of the important characteristics of this project is the fact that it will not be fenced off for locals, it’s main intention is to completely develop the infrastructure of the entire coastline so that everyone can enjoy it, just like in world famous marinas in Nice, Barcelona or Marseilles. Now all that’s left to do is wait and see if this project will indeed see the light of day. In the meantime, you can have a look at the 3D simulation of the proposed marina.
