Končar digital solution

November the 30th, 2023 – The Končar digital solution Proza Station has been highly awarded for its security, putting Croatian innovation on the map once again.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, German Ambassador Christian Hellbach recently presented a prestigious certificate to the president and a member of the Board of Končar – Digital, Goran Leci and Stjepan Sučić. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Board, Gordan Kolak, Deputy Ambassador Harald Seibel and Đuro Tunjić, Director of TÜV NORD Adriatic.

In his opening address, Ambassador Hellbach pointed out that the strength of the German economy is innovation and quick adaptation to changes. “We’re witnessing the transformation of the German economy towards carbon neutrality, which opens up great opportunities for companies like Končar and for Croatia as a potential exporter of green energy,” stated Hellbach.

The IEC 62351 standard plays a key role in the field of cyber security of critical infrastructure, primarily because it defines the requirements to ensure confidentiality, integrity protection and communication authentication with the aim of protecting remote control systems.

“In order to adequately respond to the intensive digital transformation and green energy transition at the level of the whole of Europe, Končar’s strategic focus has primarily been placed on digital solutions for the monitoring and management of critical infrastructure for many years. We plan to become the largest IT company in the wider region, and the realisation of this extremely important certificate represents a significant and prominent step in the realisation of that goal. This is the result of intensive investments and striving for the highest possible standards of excellence”, stated Gordan Kolak when discussing the Končar digital solution in question.

The first digital solution in the world to obtain this certificate is Končar’s

As the first digital solution in the world to be awarded this certificate, Končar’s Proza Station is intended for the cybernetically secure management of transformer stations. In addition, it can be used in all kinds of other critical infrastructure systems, including access data centres.

“The protection of critical infrastructure and the requirements of international norms and upcoming European regulations, especially in the area of data security and communications in the management of the critical infrastructure itself, represent increasing challenges that only a few systems can cope with. The successful certification of one of the most demanding standards in the field of safety of industrial systems clearly highlights Končar’s extremely strong focus on quality, safety and best global practices. It was an honour and pleasure for us to be a part of that process”, stated Đuro Tunjić of TÜV NORD Adriatic.

Efficiency and security is provided by the remarkable Končar digital solution

An important feature of the awarded Končar digital solution is the possibility of its application in a private computer cloud, all with the use of Docker containers. This achieves greater efficiency during the implementation and maintenance of data centres and enables the introduction of additional digital redundancy with the aim of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructure systems.

Such a solution enables the rapid development of advanced energy networks through the widespread application of digital control at distribution transformer stations of a lower voltage level.

“The cyber security of this Končar digital solution is in full accordance with the EU NIS 2 Directive and the provisions of the new Law on Cyber Security that is currently being prepared. This certificate also confirms the continuation of Končar’s tradition and focus on cyber security. Back in 2019, the earlier generation Scada platform Proza Net was the first in the entire world to be certified according to the very stringent standards for cyber security in Scada systems for industrial automation, ISA/IEC 62443.
